Conditions & Protocols

This section of the book describes conditions associated with CRPS and some suggested Treatment Protocols generously provided by The Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Association based in the US. They have been involved in trying to raise awareness of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome since 1984.

There is also a piece written by an Occupational Therapist who describes oedema and how to manage it. Oedema is one of the major symptoms of CRPS and in all of the journal articles on CRPS that I researched, it is generally accepted that without addressing the problem of oedema there is little chance of effectively reducing pain levels.

Another Occupational Therapist kindly wrote a piece for the book outlining Occupational Therapy and CRPS.

In this section I have also included ‘Frozen Shoulder’ which I was diagnosed with, although later after an MRI scan it was discovered to be something else. I suffered crippling pain in my shoulder and could barely move it for months. It seems to be fairly common and since I had all the symptoms associated with Frozen Shoulder, I decided to include it.
